TRANSIT PHILOSOPHY

The belief that education is a preparation for life and not just acquired to make a living is the edifice on which Transit College has been established. The core essence of our pedagogy and training is the preparation and empowerment of the students by imparting a holistic education encompassing the intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual facets and attributes. Lateral thinking and the ability to process knowledge and information critically and analytically are very essential in today’s competitive world. The skills to be imbibed to interpret and apply the knowledge and to provide solutions to complex problems and the ability to make informed decisions are essential qualities much sought after in the corporate environment. Hence, we ensure that these skills are developed by benchmarking our teaching and training to the best global practices and research. The true goal of education is not to be self-serving but to serve and contribute to society with empathy and benevolence. We aspire to make every student in our care blossom into a responsible and thinking individual who would be a lifelong learner, an agent of transformation, and a trustworthy citizen.

Purpose for establishing the College

At the time Sierra Leone gained independence, the country had one of the best educational systems in Africa. But after independence, the long period of wars got its effect on the system.

Interacting with some employers and other stakeholders, it is evid ent that the

educational programs are not delivering as expected. Employers cited a lack of skills among new graduates. For this reason, Transit College was established to fill the gap.

Establishing Transit College aims to help students acquire technical skills in their fields of interest and prepare for careers in professional practices, civic impact, and leadership anchored on fairness, merit, and commitment to active life-long learning. Transit College strives to:

  1. Provide the students with the required skills and expertise to meet the challenges of today’s diverse and ever-changing job market.
  2. Give sound academic achievement with innovative and problem-solving skills
  3. Empower students with analytical and conceptual skills
  4. Produce a highly motivated, flexible, and adaptable workforce with a ‘can do’ attitude Centre of excellence.

Transit College is repositioning itself to be a center of excellence for producing a lower-level, ready- to-work workforce. To this end, Transit College has established an Entrepreneurship Incubation Centre in the School of Business and Management.
